Welcome back for another exciting night if NHL action. Tuesday brings us an eight-game slate with two teams(DAL, MIN) playing a back to back and also includes six teams currently ranked 20th or worse in defense. With another collection of high total games, we can once again expect a high-scoring night. Let’s take a look at some of the top plays at each position.
Top Goalie Target
Semyon Varlamov(DK - $8,000 FD - $8,200)
Varlamov has been off to a red-hot start this season going 3-0-1 with an elite .946 save % while facing 32.5 shots per game. Where he separates himself from Devan Dubnyk who I also like tonight is the offense in front of him which gives him that win upside each and every time he gets between the pipes. The matchup is also intriguing as the Avs will travel to New York tonight to take on a Rangers team that is 1-4 on the season and has scored just 2.4 goals per game. Fire up Varlamov in all formats tonight.
Also Consider: Devan Dubnyk(MIN) in GPP formats as the Wild are playing on a back back but get a terrific matchup against the Coyotes dead last offense
Nathan MacKinnon(DK - $7,700 FD - $8,900)
Sticking with the Avs tonight, we have superstar Nathan Mackinnon who is coming off a monster 97 point season. He has carried that over to the 2018-19 campaign having scored six goals in his first five games, all at even strength. On top of the huge upside he has also provided a high floor averaging just over five shots on goal per game. Not only have the Rangers been bad on offense but defense as well as they have allowed 34.4 shots and 3.6 goals per game. Center is one of the first places I look to spend up on a nightly basis and tonight it’s MacKinon in all formats.
Brayden Points(DK - $5,900 FD - $6,400)
The price went up a $1,000 on DraftKings since Saturday night and for good reason. Bolts coach Jon Cooper switched up the top two lines putting Brayden Point and Yanni Gourde with Steven Stamkos on the top line. It clicked right away as Point tallied two goals and an assist as they beat the Blue Jackets. Nothing changed in yesterday’s practice as the lines remained the same putting Point in an elite class from a PTS/$ perspective on a high-scoring Tampa team. He is in play in all formats and keep in mind he is now labeled a winger on DraftKings.
Also Consider: Jack Eichel(BUF) who is skating over 21 minutes per game, averaging over four shots per game, and has already tallied five points in five games
Kyle Connor(DK - $6,700 FD - $5,600)
If we are spending up at the center position tonight we are going to have to find some value at the wing position. The price is getting up there for Connor on DraftKings but on the FanDuel, it is an easy decision for me from a PTS/$ standpoint. Kyle Connor is off to a hot start scoring a goal in four of his five games with five total points and has also provided a high floor averaging 3.4 shots on goal per game. He also gets a ton of ice-time(19.6 per game) skating on the top line and powerplay unit with Wheeler and Scheifele. The Jets should be able to score some goals tonight against an Oilers team that is 1-2 on the season and is giving up 3.3 goals per game.
Conor Sheary(DK - $4,600 FD - $5,300)
Sheary was traded to the Sabres in the offseason and has been a consistent fantasy option to start the year. He has picked up a point in three of his last four games and recorded multiple shots in four of his five total games on the season. The best part is that he is getting a ton of opportunities skating over 18 minutes a game in three of his last four games and is skating alongside Jack Eichel on the top line and powerplay unit. At these prices, he is a terrific option in all formats.
Also Consider: Wayne Simmonds(PHI) who is providing a nice floor with shots and skates on the top powerplay unit for the Flyers
Alexander Edler(DK - $5,900 FD - $5,500)
If you are looking for consistent fantasy points you can rely on each and every night turn to Alex Edler. He provides a very high floor each night and has hit value in every game with shots(11) and blocks(29) alone. He is a workhorse who skates over 25 min per game and has also provided us with some upside having recorded five points on the season. At a price under $6K on both sites, he is an elite PTS/$ play in all formats.
Mirco Mueller(DK - $3,000 FD - $3,500)
Mueller is a former first round pick(2013) who is on his second team and is finally getting some opportunity to showcase his skills. He is currently paired with Sami Vatanen on the top unit and has impressed picking up points in each of his fist three games, all at even strength. If he continues to impress he is going to earn himself a shot at some powerplay time as well. At these prices, he not only provides upside but also salary relief to help load up at the forward position.
Also Consider: Shayne Gostisbehere(PHI), Brady Skjei
