NBA DFS Preview October 19th: Battle for NYC

Friday brings us a beautiful, 11-game slate. There is plenty of money to be made, and value to be had. If you have any questions, be sure to join me in the RotoPros Slack Chat. Not a RotoProsmember yet? Get over to the siteand sign up for a FREE two-week trial

Top-Tier Targets

Anthony Davis ($11,600 DK, $13,300 FD): Too many times in DFS we fade the somewhat obvious, proper play out of a fear that the game will be a blow out. The Kings won both games in New Orleans last season, and Gentry will not be taking them lightly. Anthony was the highest scorer on the slate Wednesday, and I don’t expect Willie Cauley Stein, or Bjelica to slow down the Brow in the slightest.

Karl-Anthony Towns ($9100 DK, $10,100 FD): Recency bias will undoubtedly lead to lower ownership for the Big KAT, and with the second-highest point total on the slate there is no reason why Mr. Towns shouldn’t go for 5-6X comfortably this evening. I prefer Towns to any of the Warriors in a tough, defensive matchup in Utah.

Other options:

Victor Oladipo (GPP)/ Kawhi Leonard (Cash)

Mid-Tier Value Picks

Kyrie Irving ($6600 DK, $8000 FD): Never thought I would be writing about Kyrie as a “mid-tier” play ever after his rookie season, however due to his initial rust on opening night, and the Celtics overall depth at guard, his price has plummeted to a career low. I expect tonight to be a very good game between the two best teams in the East, and I expect Kyrie to be the one handling the ball down the stretch in the fourth quarter.

De’Aaron Fox ($6500 DK, $6500 FD): Fox looked great opening night, and as previously mentioned the Kings played well enough to win both times in two trips to New Orleans last season. Hield returns home in a little revenge narrative, however Fox is who I will be targeting in both GPP and Cash tonight as a nice option to run-it-back with Pelican stacks.

Elfrid Payton ($5800 DK, $7000 FD): Opening night triple-double in Houston with a much tougher assignment than who will be facing tonight, fire up Elfrid Payton for both GPP and Cash tonight in what should be a very fast-paced matchup against the Kings. He should be at least $6500, probably more, and will be soon enough.

Cheap Punt Plays:

Allen Crabbe ($4200 DK, $5200 FD): He missed opening night, so recency bias is somewhat in effect, however particularly on DK Crabbe is simply too cheap and should see starter’s minutes against the Knicks tonight. He is a good source of points and 3’s, and tonight should be an intense, emotional game the Nets will expect to win at home, so if that is going to happen then Crabbe needs to be a big part of their offensive efficiency.

Allonzo Trier ($3400 DK, $3900 FD): Iso-Zo has done nothing but score since the Knicks signed him. He had a highlight dunk on opening night and looks like he has secured at least a solid 15 to 20-minute floor for this young Knicks squad. I won’t push this pick too hard, however I have a feeling about Trier as a safe, low-owned punt.

Injury News I’m Waiting On:

1.    Rondae-Hollis Jefferson

2.    Mitchell Robinson + Courtney Lee

3.    JR Smith + Larry Nance

4.    Marc Gasol

5.    Russell Westbrook

6.    Andre Iguodala
