Tuesday brings us a big eight-game slate with no teams playing on a back to back. Let’s dig in and take a look at some of the top plays at each position and then make sure to grab a copy of my cheatsheet highlighting all my favorite targets and top stats.
Top Goalie Target
Corey Crawford(DK - $8,100 FD - $7,700)
Crawford is back from injury and after allowing three goals on 30 shots in his first start, looked terrific in his second starts saving 37 of 38 shots as the Blackhawks beat the Blue Jackets in Columbus on Saturday night. Tonight, Crawford and the Hawks are -140 home favorites as the Ducks come to town with their 24th ranked offense as they are scoring just 2.6 goals per game. He is in play in all formats, especially on FanDuel where he comes at a big discount.
Also Consider: Sergei Bobrovsky(CBJ) who should be lower owned being expensive and has struggled early in season but gets an elite matchup vs. the Coyotes who are averaging just 1.4 goals per game
Tyler Seguin(DK - $7,600 FD - $7,900)
Seguin is the player I will be building my cash games around tonight for a couple reasons. First of all, he comes at a slight discount from McDavid and Bergeron on DraftKings and add Malkin and Crosby to that list on FanDuel as well. The other thing that stands out above the rest is the shot volume as he sits tied with 43 shots on the season(6.1 per game) and is fifth among players with 4+ games played with an elite 25.2 iCorsi/60. Some people may also see that he has been held off the scoresheet in three straight games but overall it has been a good start to the season as he has 10 points in seven games. The matchup is another thing to note as the Kings have struggled defensively in the early going allowing 3.5 goals and 31.9 shots per game. Fire up Seguin in all formats.
Mika Zibanejad(DK - $6,200 FD - $6,400)
If you are looking to go a little bit more balanced at the position, Zibanejad also checks off all the boxes. It starts with his opportunities for the Rangers as he is skating on the top line and powerplay unit and getting just over 21 minutes of ice-time per game. He is also making the most of that averaging 4.4 shots on goal per game and is the only other center on the slate with a 20+ iCorsi/60 rating. Despite the Rangers overall offensive struggles they are a team high on my radar tonight facing a Panthers team that ranks 28th in defense allowing 3.83 goals per game to this point in the season.
Also Consider: Kyle Turris(NSH) in GPP formats as a value play at the position
Cam Atkinson(DK - $6,600 FD - $7,100)
I do like David Pastrnak at the top of the salary but building around Tyler Seguin at center has me going a more value route at the other positions. It starts with Cam Atkinson who sits at the top of the next tier in pricing and provides an elite floor averaging four shots on goal per game on an elite 22.3 iCorsi/60 rating. He skates on the top line and powerplay unit getting just under 19 minutes of ice-time per game and the Blue Jackets are the biggest favorite(-167) on the slate with the second-highest goal projection(3.1). Atkinson in a terrific cash game play with his high floor and is also viable in GPP formats with his upside and opportunity.
Brendan Gallagher(DK - $5,600 FD - $6,400)
The Canadiens have been one of the early surprises in the NHL this season after trading away two of their best offensive players(Pacioretty/Galchenyuk). They are 4-1-2 and rank just outside the Top 10 in offense scoring 3.3 goals per game. Gallagher has played a big role in the offense scoring a goal in three of his last four games(four total) and will continue to get opportunities skating on the top line and powerplay unit. He also provides a high floor for cash games averaging over three shots per game which is backed up by an elite 22.95 iCorsi/60 which is 11th best in the league.
Also Consider: Craig Smith(NSH) or Jonathan Huberdeau(FLA) in all formats
Cam Fowler(DK - $4,700 FD - $4,900)
Fowler has a price tag on both sites that falls in the sub $5K range which makes him stand out in a big way from a PTS/$ perspective. He is skating on the top unit and getting over two minutes per game on both the powerplay and short-handed units and while the shot volume isn’t there yet(1.4 per game), he provides a high floor with his shot blocking(3.1 per game). At these prices against a Blackhawks team that ranks 29th in defense(4 goals per game against) Fowler is in play in all formats.
Also Consider: Kevin Connauton(ARI) as a punt play who is providing decent shot volume(2.7 shots per game) or Jack Johnson(PIT) who has seen some increased ice-time lately and has eight shots and 12 blocks in his last three games
