Daily Fantasy Baseball Core Plays for DraftKings and FanDuel - 4/13/19(Early Slate)

Welcome back for a another full day of Saturday baseball. Both sits have early slates but in this article I will be concentrating on the seven-game early slate on DraftKings. Let’s jump in and take a look at some of the core plays at each position.

With that, let’s jump into the picks.

Starting Pitcher

Blake Snell(TB)

After a terrible Opening Day start against the Astros(5 ER), Blake Snell has bounced back and looked the part of the defending CY Young winner. Over his last two starts, he has allowed just eight hits and one earned run while striking out 24 and walking just one. He now gets an elite matchup against a Blue Jays team that ranks near the bottom of the league in almost all statistical categories. With no other pay up options on the early slate, Snell is the easy choice to build around in all formats.

Also Consider: Michael Pineda(MIN) who has struck out 10 in his first nine innings(two starts) and now faces a Tigers team that ranks 28th in wRC+, dead last in wOBA, and is striking out at 26.7% rate

First Base/Catcher

Trey Mancini(BAL)

Despite this only being a smaller seven-game slate, first base has a ton of options. I will leave Mitch Moreland for GPP’s as he has seen his price sky rocket lately and I will also have some exposure to Rizzo who is struggling but has a terrific matchup. Trey Mancini is the play I will turn to in cash games as he has been one of the few bright spots for the Orioles this season. He has started the year slashing .333/.375/.725 with six home runs and 12 RBI. This doesn’t really come as a surprise, however, as he has back to back years with 24 home runs to start his career and he also flashed consistency in his rookie year hitting .293. Mancini is in play in all formats.

Also Consider: Anthony Rizzo(CHC)

Second Base

Adam Frazier(PIT)

Middle infield is a great spot to look for value and value is very important on these smaller split slates. The Pirates offense is nothing to write home about but Adam Frazier has been consistent from the leadoff spot. He enters today’s game with hits in nine of 12 games giving him a nice floor for the price. The issue has been the upside which gets a boost on Saturday as the Pirates get a matchup against Anibal Sanchez who has walked six in his first starts which has led to seven earned runs against. As long as he continues to hit leadoff, Frazier will continue to be a nice cash game play.

Also Consider: Jonathan Villar(BAL)

Third Base

Kris Bryant(CHC)

The Cubs offense has been an interesting case study early in the season. They have been very up and down and despite their stars struggling(Bryant/Rizzo), sit 4th in runs scored. Bad news for the rest of the NL Central as Bryant appears to be waking up with hits in four of his last five and six of his last eight games. The Cubs are also in a great spot today facing Chris Stratton who has already given up 11 hits and six earned runs in just 8.1 innings while striking out just two and walking six. Bryant is in play in all formats, and his best value comes on DraftKings where he is third in pricing at the position.

Also Consider: Rafael Devers(BOS)

Xander Bogaerts(BOS)

He is coming off just his second multi-hit game of the season last night but he has been very consistent with hits in 11 of 12 games played with nine runs scored. The Red Sox offense is also starting to heat up with 18 runs in their last three games so hitting 5th, Bogaerts will continue to get a ton of opportunities to drive in runs. Boston is, by far, the highest projected scoring team on the slate and Bogaerts is somehow 6th most expensive at the shortstop position. He is in play in all formats.

Also Consider: Tim Anderson(CWS)

Andrew Benintendi(BOS)

I will go back to the Red Sox offense in the outfield and while they have three very good ones including the reigning AL MVP, I will turn to their leadoff hitter. This play isn’t a must on DraftKings but in the sub $4K range on FanDuel, he is easily a core play for me once again in all formats. I already mentioned the Sox being the top projected team on the slate and Benny comes in red- hot with hits in nine of his last 10 games including six multi-hit efforts. Lock and load on the Red Sox offense today.

Also Consider: Austin Meadows(TB)
