Top-Tier Pitching Targets:

Max Scherzer ($11,800 DK, $11,700 FD): Mad-Max is looking at 2-starts this week as he usually likes to pitch on 4-days rest. He went for 12 K’s and a hard-luck loss on opening day to the reigning Cy-Young winner (DeGrom), however with his tremendous K-upside makes for our favorite high-priced Cash option this evening.

Chris Sale ($10,500 DK, $10,800 FD): There has been some minor concern over Sale’s health as his fastball velocity has been down since his return from injury last season, however the Boston front-office just gave him a massive 5-year, 150-million dollar extension and they are amongst the sharpest front-offices in all of professional sports so if they aren’t concerned, we shouldn’t be either. Sale and Max for Cash won’t be possible in a few months, so enjoy it while you can.

Other options to consider:

Hyun-Jin Ryu

Mid-Tier/Cheap Pitching Targets:

Jason Vargas ($5600 DK, $6500 FD): If you’ve been a follower of my writing for a few seasons, you’re familiar with the flow-chart philosophy we follow from sport to sport. For the MLB, the recurring theme so far has been to take ANY pitcher going up against the San Francisco Giants and the Miami Marlins. These teams are basically throwing out Triple-A quality starting lineups.

Zack Greinke ($7600 DK, $8800 FD): Greinke had a tough opening day matchup against the slugging Dodgers, however now he gets a much more appetizing ballpark in San Diego. I prefer Vargas, Scherzwer, Sale, and Ryu but Zack is a close 5thand a high-upside GPP option.

Other options to consider:

Kyle Freeland

Top-Tier Offensive Stack:

Houston Astros Lefties:Shelby Miller is not a very talented pitcher, and the battle for Texas is usually very intense as both of these clubs want to start the season off properly with bragging rights. Brantley is my favorite player to target in this one.

Other options to consider:

Toronto Blue Jays (Lefties)

Mid-Tier/Cheap Offensive Stack:

Arizona Dback Righties:Eric Lauer is not even close to as good of a pitcher as he seemed on Opening Day. Baseball is a numbers game, and the numbers on Lauer scream “regression”, and fast! I love Adam Jones tonight.

Other options to consider:

New York Mets (Lefties)
