Welcome back for another night of action in the Association. Let’s jump in and take a look at some of my core plays at each position and then make sure to check out all our top plays on the Members-Only DFS NBA cheatsheet available in chat.
DEVIN BOOKER – SUNS – FD $8,200 DK $7,900
I’m expecting Devin Booker to approach 50 fantasy points tonight and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go over. After missing out on his best friends Minnesota reunion, Booker will get back to proving why he should’ve been voted into the NBA All-Star game. Booker didn’t have a great game against the Rockets earlier in the year, but it was when he was struggling and the game wasn’t close. I expect Boker to matchup with James Harden all night and for the two to go back and forth. Booker is affordable on both sites and a great option in all formats.
KENDRICK NUNN – HEAT – FD $4,600 DK $4,800
With Jimmy Butler doubtful for this game, Kendrick Nunn will get huge minutes and we all know the rookie loves to fire. This injury puts a few Miami guys in play, but Nunn has the most value. He’s cheap on both sites and has a good shot of putting up 40 fantasy points. The Kings play relatively fast and aren’t any good against point guards or shooting guards. Nunn is locked into huge minutes with Butler out and this is your top value play at guard.
DONOVAN MITCHELL – JAZZ – FD $7,100 DK $6,900
The Jazz face off with the Portland Trail Blazers tonight, who play faster than Utah and have struggled against Mitchell in the past. He put up 35 points and 47 fantasy points on December 26th against Portland and I expect a similar performance tonight. Mitchell is inexpensive on both sites and you only need right over 40 points to smash value. Mitchell is a great value at shooting guard and I expect him to come in under 20% owned with so many options at shooting guard.
KEMBA WALKER – CELTICS – FD $7,300 DK $7,600
With Gordon Hayward and Jaylen Brown out, Kemba Walker will be given 30 minutes to do what he can against Trae Young tonight. Walker should be able to put up 40+ fantasy points in the time and I wouldn’t be surprised if he sees most of the 4th quarter, which is when Walker dominates. The Hawks are a great matchup for Walker and his usage is going to be incredibly high with two stars out. I love Walker and he may be low-owned with the announced 30-minute restriction.
CHRISTIAN WOOD – PISTONS – FD $7,300 DK $6,000
It’s Christian Wood time! With Andre Drummond gone to the Cleveland Cavaliers, it’s time for Christian Wood to step up and I expect him to end up being one of the best big men in basketball. He has some of the best interior awareness of any youngster and he’s great on the boards. Wood has been over 30 minutes in back-to-back games and I expect that to be the norm from here on out. The price has certainly risen on Wood, but 40+ fantasy points is more likely than not in my opinion.
DERRICK JONES – HEAT – FD $5,200 DK $4,800
With Jimmy Butler likely out for this game, Derrick Jones will once again pick up 30+ minutes and he’s been extremely productive in each of the last two games. Butler takes up a high usage in this offense and Jones is locked into 30+ minutes and 30+ fantasy points. His price on both sites is friendly and I’m a fan in all formats.
MAXI KLEBER – MAVS – FD $4,500 DK $4,400
Kristaps Porzingis is questionable for this game, but I like Kleber either way. Don’t get me wrong. If Porzingis is out, you lock Kleber in and don’t think twice. However, I think a lot of people will get off of Kleber if Kristaps is in and I disagree. He may not be the stone cold lock, but he’s been over 30 minutes in two straight and this matchup is as good as it gets. Kleber is cheap on both sites and I love him for power forward value.
JOEL EMBIID – 76ERS – FD $9,300 DK $8,500
The Sixers draw a fast-paced matchup with the Grizzlies and there are quite a few Sixers in play here. I like paying up at center for Embiid, who’s still too cheap on both sites and has plenty of upside at the price. Memphis and Jonas Valunciunas have no shot at slowing down a hot Joel Embiid and I wouldn’t be surprised to see 55-60 fantasy points on both sites. There’s plenty of upside to for a few of these superstars.
